Grumpy Papercraft

I'm always looking for new ways to stoke my creativity. I didn't start Desk Cat drawings until 2015. An earlier desk art activity was papercraft.

Papercraft is the art of folded (and glued) decorative paper. It is usually in the form of some recognizable object, such as a cat or a flower. All you need is a printer, scissors, and adhesive such as glue or tape. Papercraft can be very simple and quick, or can be shockingly intricate where it takes hours to complete.

There are many positives to papercraft. It is something you can do with existing desk supplies- so you can't forget your art materials at home (though if your work frowns upon using office supplies to imporove morale, then you'd still need to print it out and bring supplies from home). Another advantage to papercraft is that it is a cheap, nearly risk-free way to decorate your desk. I used to put action figures and other decorations on my desk and they kept disappearing. Papercraft looks cool, but it is less likely someone is going to bother stealing used paper. If they did, you just get to make another one for fun.

Today, it was announced that internet star Tardar Sauce (better known as "Grumpy Cat") has passed away. In honor of her, I am directing you to another site who created a simple pattern for a papercraft Grumpy Cat many years ago. This way, everyone can have a Grumpy Cat for their desk (or home, or car, etc.) for the cost of one printed piece of paper. You can even print it in black and white and she would still be recognizable. Before I had a color printer I used to print the patterns in black and white and color it in with markers. It is all up to you.

Tubbypaws is a wonderful resouce for papercraft patterns. They have not updated in several years, but they still have a nice little library of papercraft art. I heartily endorse making yourself a Ceiling Cat for your office or other internet joys.
