Banana Oat Mush Bars
This is not only a very simple recipe and it keeps well, but it is reasonably healthy. Must love bananas. Usually I try to include need-to-know information before the reciepe like how to procure the ingredients, and to convince people to try it. So uh, buy the ingredients and make the bars if you need a healthy snack bar. There. Done. It's not always complicated. 😎
Serves: 8 • Prep: 20 • Cook:10
Suggested
Hardware
- 9x9 or equivalent baking pan
Ingredients
- 4 large mashed bananas
- 1/3 cup apple sauce (can substitute butter)
- 1/2 cup rolled or steel cut oats
- 1/2 cup gluten free flour
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1/2 cup raisins (optional, or can substitute dried cherries, cranberries, berries, etc.)
- 1/2 cup nuts (optional, suggested: pine, almond, pecan, walnut)
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 2 tsp cinnamon
Procedure
- Mash all that together. Don't stress about how to do it. It doesn't matter
- Bake at 350 degrees for at least 10-15 minutes, after the top has turned a golden brown
Special Notes
- You should need to have to mash the mush into the edges of the pan, it should NOT be liquid enough to pour. Otherwise it will make the resulting bars require refrigeration.
- If you want to put them in an airtight container while you hike a trail or around a sci-fi convention, you want them to be pretty dry. After 10-15 minutes of baking sometimes I'll turn the oven off but leave the bars in the oven to dry out for several hours.
